Mage talent builds are good enough to let you do just about anything with any build. PvP, PvE, solo grind, AoE, or focus fire. But if you really want to ramp up your success you need to go with a specific build. Fire is amazing for a single target while Frost is good for grinding. The best mage talent build that I have used is Arcane because it supports Fire or Frost.

The Frost tree can be shared with two talents. This build is based on leveling so you can level a mage in the fastest time possible!

Levels 10-14: Improved Frostbolt 5/5
Levels 15-16: Improved Frost Nova 2/2
Levels 17-19: Permafrost 3/3
Level 20: Cold Snap 1/1
Levels 21-23: Improved Blizzard 3/3
Level 24: Elemental Precision 1/3
Levels 25-26: Arctic Reach 2/2
Levels 27-29: Frost Channeling 3/3
Level 30: Ice Block 1/1

The Frost mage talent build will focus on a single enemy. We want you to cause great damage so we’ll use the talents that give you higher damage.

Levels 17-19: Frostbite 3/3
Level 20: Cold Snap 1/1
Levels 21-23: Piercing Ice 3/3
Level 24: Ice Shards 1/5
Levels 25-29: Shatter 5/5

Level 32: Ice Block 1/1
Levels 33-34: Ice Shards 3/5

When you reach the top of the Frost tree you can go back if you want and get the Elemental Precision and use it along with Arcane Subtelty or you can use a full Frost tree and take Frost Channeling, Permafrost, or Arctic Winds.

The mage talent build of fire is based on getting as much spell damage as possible. The huge problem with this is that you have to wait and have mana way to much which is inefficient and this causes longer downtimes.

Levels 17-19 : Ignite 3/5
Level 20 : Pyroblast 1/1
Levels 21-22 : Ignite 5/5
Levels 23-24 : Burning Soul 2/2

Levels 31-33 : Critical Mass 3/3
Level 34 : Improve Fire Blast 1/3
Levels 35-39 : Fire Power 5/5

Levels 44-45 : Molten Fury 2/2
Levels 46-47 : Improve Fire Blast 3/3

For 51 and beyond you should use Empowered Fireball because you won’t have much spell damage until maybe 60. Many prefer to use Master of Elements for mana with mages or Elemental Precision to reduce resist.

This is based on Scorch that gives the mob you are killing fire vulnerability. Do Scorch 5 times to get full power then use Firebolt.
